    beta-Farnesene, (6Z)- (CAS 28973-97-9) là một sesquiterpen C15 không no có nguồn gốc tự nhiên và sản xuất sinh học, ứng dụng linh hoạt trong hương liệu – thực phẩm (tạo sắc thái “green”, thảo mộc, gỗ nhẹ, trái cây tươi, hỗ trợ nốt citrus và hoppy trong đồ uống, trà, kẹo), trong nông nghiệp như thành phần bán hóa học để nghiên cứu và pha chế tín hiệu côn trùng (bổ sung, điều chỉnh hoặc làm đối chứng cho hệ công thức chứa E-β-farnesene nhằm xua rệp muội và tăng thu hút thiên địch), và trong hóa chất – vật liệu như nguyên liệu đầu tổng hợp isoprenoid tinh xảo (ví dụ dẫn xuất farnesol, nerolidol), hydro hóa thành farnesane cho nhiên liệu sinh học và base dầu mỹ phẩm, hoặc trùng hợp/biến tính (hydro hóa, epoxi hóa) thành poly(β-farnesene), chất hóa dẻo, keo dính, elastomer, lớp phủ bao bì; đồng thời dùng làm chuẩn phân tích và tham chiếu mùi, cần bảo quản kín, tránh oxy và ánh sáng do dễ oxy hóa, dễ cháy.
