    7-Methoxycoumarin (còn gọi là herniarin, CAS 531-59-9) là một dẫn xuất coumarin tự nhiên được tìm thấy trong hoa cúc và một số loài thực vật họ Apiaceae; hợp chất này được ứng dụng rộng rãi nhờ đặc tính phát huỳnh quang mạnh, hương thơm dịu và hoạt tính sinh học đa dạng: trong nghiên cứu hoá sinh và sinh học phân tử, nó đóng vai trò chất dò huỳnh quang để định lượng enzyme, khảo sát tương tác protein–ligand hoặc làm đầu dò phát hiện gốc tự do; trong công nghiệp mỹ phẩm và dược phẩm, 7-Methoxycoumarin góp phần tạo hương cho nước hoa, xà phòng, kem dưỡng, đồng thời được nghiên cứu như thành phần chống ôxy hoá, kháng viêm, kháng vi sinh vật và có tiềm năng ức chế tyrosinase giúp làm sáng da; ở lĩnh vực vật liệu, khả năng hấp thụ và phát xạ UV của hợp chất này cho phép sử dụng làm chất ổn định ánh sáng trong polyme, sơn phủ, mực in bảo mật hoặc làm chất đánh dấu huỳnh quang trong bôi trơn và dầu nhờn; ngoài ra, các nghiên cứu nông nghiệp xem xét nó như một chất bảo vệ thực vật sinh học nhờ tác dụng ức chế nấm và côn trùng, đồng thời là tiền chất hữu ích để tổng hợp coumarin chức năng hóa cao hơn phục vụ thiết kế thuốc, chất nhuộm và cảm biến hóa học.

The natural extracts containing 7-Methoxycoumarin should not be used as substitutes for this substance.

Hạn chế
On the basis of established maximum concentration levels of this substance in commercially available natural sources (like essential oils, extracts and absolutes), exposure to this substance from the use of these oils and extracts is regarded acceptable as long as the level of 7-Methoxy-coumarin in the finished product does not exceed 0.01% (100 ppm).
