    6-Methylheptan-3-ol (CAS 18720-66-6) là một alcohol bậc hai mạch nhánh C8 được ưa dùng làm nguyên liệu trung gian đa năng: có thể este hóa hoặc tạo carbonat để thu dung môi, chất hóa dẻo và phụ gia bôi trơn có độ bay hơi vừa phải; làm tiền chất của chất hoạt động bề mặt (qua dẫn xuất ethoxylat/propoxylat) cho chất tẩy rửa, sơn phủ và xử lý bề mặt; trong sơn-mực-keo, rượu này hoặc các este của nó đóng vai trò đồng dung môi/coalescent cải thiện độ hòa tan nhựa, độ chảy láng và thời gian mở; trong R&D hương liệu-hương vị, bản thân rượu và đặc biệt là các este của nó được khảo sát cho nốt hương xanh tươi/trái cây, với khả năng tinh chỉnh mùi nhờ phân nhánh và tính đối ảnh; trong nghiên cứu vật liệu và khoa học đời sống, nó được dùng như alkanol mô hình để khảo sát quan hệ cấu trúc-tính chất (phân bố n-octanol/nước, tương tác màng, sức căng bề mặt) và làm chất chuẩn/chuẩn lưu giữ GC khi tách các đồng phân alcohol mạch nhánh; ngoài ra còn là khối xây dựng cho hóa chất chuyên dụng, dầu gốc este điểm chảy thấp và phụ gia gia công kim loại, với lựa chọn ứng dụng phụ thuộc yêu cầu công thức, an toàn và quy định.
