    2,6-Dimethyl-4-heptanone (còn gọi là diisobutyl ketone, DIBK, CAS 108-83-8) là một dung môi công nghiệp sôi cao, không mùi hăng, ít hòa tan trong nước nhưng tương hợp với hầu hết dung môi hữu cơ, nhờ vậy nó được ưa chuộng trong sản xuất sơn phủ hàm rắn cao, mực in, keo dán, nhựa epoxy, alkyd, urethane và acrylic để giảm hàm lượng VOC, cải thiện độ chảy, tăng độ bền màng; trong ngành tẩy rửa kim loại và làm sạch thiết bị điện tử, DIBK đóng vai trò chất tẩy dầu mỡ, bóc sơn, rửa photoresist nhờ bay hơi chậm và ít cặn; trong công nghệ khai thác và tinh chế, dung môi này được dùng chiết xuất kim loại (Cu, Ni), tách nước khỏi rượu nhờ tạo azeotrope, cũng như làm pha lỏng cho chiết xuất kháng sinh, hương liệu và các hợp chất tự nhiên; trong tổng hợp hóa dược và thuốc bảo vệ thực vật, nó làm môi trường phản ứng hoặc dung môi truyền để kiểm soát nhiệt độ, hạn chế tạo peroxide, dễ thu hồi; trong lĩnh vực pin Li-ion, bán dẫn và vật liệu quang điện, DIBK được đánh giá cao vì độ tinh khiết cao, độ ẩm thấp, mang lại bề mặt sạch và giảm khuyết tật; ngoài ra, với điểm chớp cháy cao và tính ổn định hóa học, 2,6-Dimethyl-4-heptanone còn được dùng làm chất pha loãng trong nhiên liệu, chất trung gian cho chất hoạt động bề mặt, phụ gia dầu nhờn và môi trường phản ứng polymer hóa quy mô lớn.
