    2-Methylanisole (CAS 578-58-5) là một dung môi thơm nhẹ và khối xây dựng tổng hợp quan trọng, được ứng dụng rộng rãi: trong công nghiệp hương liệu, nó tạo nốt ấm, ngọt, hơi gỗ-nhựa cho nước hoa, mỹ phẩm, sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân; trong thực phẩm và thuốc lá, nó đóng vai trò chất điều hương, tăng hậu vị hồi môn anisic cho kẹo, bánh nướng, đồ uống có cồn; trong dược phẩm và nông dược, phân tử 2-methoxy-toluene này là tiền chất điều chế acid o-anisic, o-anisaldehyde, o-anisyl chloride để tổng hợp thuốc kháng viêm, kháng khuẩn, thuốc thú y, thuốc diệt cỏ, chất điều hòa sinh trưởng; trong vật liệu polymer và điện tử, nó được dùng làm monome/chuỗi nhánh cho nhựa epoxy hiệu suất cao, chế phẩm quang khắc, tinh thể lỏng, OLED, đồng thời là dung môi chọn lọc cho tinh chế, tác nhân tham chiếu mùi và thuốc thử chuẩn trong phân tích GC, LC.
