    2-Keto-4-methylthiobutyric acid (CAS 583-92-6) là một alpha-keto acid chứa nhóm methylthio, chủ yếu được xem là chất trung gian trong sinh tổng hợp methionine và các hợp chất chứa lưu huỳnh. Trong sản xuất amino acid bằng lên men và tổng hợp hóa học, nó được dùng làm chất nền cho các phản ứng aminotransferase để tổng hợp methionine hoặc các dẫn xuất methionine; đồng thời là một tiền chất quan trọng cho tổng hợp các hợp chất chứa lưu huỳnh.
