    (2-cis,6-trans)-Farnesol là một rượu sesquiterpenoid có mùi hoa dịu, ấm và hơi gỗ, được ứng dụng rộng rãi như chất tạo mùi và chất cố định trong nước hoa cao cấp, mỹ phẩm chăm sóc da tóc và sản phẩm gia dụng để tăng độ lan tỏa, kéo dài hương và làm mềm các nốt muguet-hoa hồng; đồng thời nhờ hoạt tính ức chế vi sinh vật gây mùi, nó thường được dùng như chất hỗ trợ khử mùi/booster bảo quản ở nồng độ thấp trong công thức, với yêu cầu ghi nhãn chất gây dị ứng mùi hương và tuân thủ tiêu chuẩn IFRA, quy định EU và các hướng dẫn địa phương; trong lĩnh vực hương liệu-thực phẩm, đồng phân này đôi khi được dùng ở mức rất thấp để bổ sung sắc thái hoa quả-mật trong đồ uống và bánh kẹo theo quy định cho phép; trong R&D sinh học và dược học, (2-cis,6-trans)-farnesol được sử dụng làm chất tham chiếu để nghiên cứu con đường mevalonate, điều hòa HMG-CoA reductase và quá trình prenyl hóa protein, làm phân tử quorum-sensing điển hình của Candida albicans trong nghiên cứu nấm men, cũng như trong khảo sát tác dụng kháng nấm/kháng biofilm, tăng cường thấm qua da và làm khung xây dựng hóa học cho các ester, dẫn xuất farnesyl hóa và vật liệu chức năng; tính chất kỵ nước và khuynh hướng oxy hóa đòi hỏi bảo quản kín, tránh ánh sáng/không khí và phối hợp chất chống oxy hóa trong công thức, và việc lựa chọn đồng phân 2-cis,6-trans giúp tinh chỉnh sắc thái mùi so với các đồng phân farnesol khác.
