Applications
p-Menth-4(8)-en-3-one (CAS 15932-80-6) is a minty, herbal monoterpene ketone used widely in flavor and fragrance to impart fresh mint/green top notes in perfumes, soaps, detergents, and personal-care products; as a low-level flavor modulator in foods and beverages where permitted; and in agro/household uses as a plant-derived component with repellent and antimicrobial activity; in organic synthesis its enone enables use as a feedstock/intermediate for selective reduction to menthone/isomenthone and for Michael additions, epoxidation, and Baeyer–Villiger oxidation to access terpene derivatives for pharma and aroma; it also serves as a GC–MS reference/marker for mint oils and as a model substrate in catalysis, chemical ecology, and olfaction studies.
